
From the tangle of the forest to the source...
The fluidity of visual conversations continues as Verum bids farewell to "TREE: Breath of Humanity" and flows into the upcoming exhibition "TRIBUTARY II: Flow from Humanity."
Artists were tasked with visually exploring the properties of waterways (symbolically or realistically). The resulting collection reveals much through movement, pathways, and depth.


While curating, I discovered a bounty of works that used markedly darker palette choices. I considered that these shrouded areas might represent all of the things that we don't see in bodies of water. And perhaps these darker expressions symbolically unveil the hidden things in life, too (the things that are left unsaid, the deeper considerations of unspoken thoughts, fears, and dreams).
The presence and momentum from vein-like patterning and networks strikes a strong cadence throughout the exhibition. Artists explore diverse media to echo tributaries, rivers, and our nervous system. Like the Fibonacci sequence there is a similarity between us and the nature of all things, the nature of waterways. If we look at the land from above (a bird's eye view), we easily see the patterns that water carves (the shapes etched into the ground), and this footprint is ever present in the expressions in this exhibit. The nature of the land tells stories, and these selected artists are the storytellers...
