This Spring Verum Ultimum will let the light in with the season. I am so excited to announce a brand-new theme for an upcoming exhibition at Verum's brick-and-mortar location in Southeast Portland. Details follow about "LUMEN" a juried exhibition to open in May 2025.

LUMEN
Verum Ultimum invites artists to interpret the theme "LUMEN," & the boundless notions this word conjures. In Latin it means light and light is the ethereal enigmatic muse that all artists cling to.
The term lumen may propel ideas of an emanating force that echoes the properties of light (light fills spaces, changes moods, and nourishes everything). Lumen is also the term used for measuring units of light. The word LUMEN may speak to aspects of your work or creative process...How does the presence of light and dark play a role in your work or process? Does the influence of a light source drive your expression? Do you utilize light in the process (through timelapse or cyanotype, and beyond)? Or perhaps you use illuminating and reflective qualities from materials or by layering to captivate the viewer? Or maybe you illustrate light itself, or you see it as a symbolic vehicle or metaphor to describe nearly anything (even people)?
Artists are encouraged to enter work that is any interpretation of the call. The intention of the call is not to dictate or define the meaning but rather to provide a catalyst for thought and reflection (and to discover unique visions and interpretations).
ALL MEDIUMS and modes of expression are welcome (from abstraction to illustrative, surreal, and beyond).

The exhibition will open at Verum Ultimum's Southeast Portland location in early May and run through the June.
